Friday folder
Each child will bring home a Friday Folder at the end of the week. This folder will contain completed work, important notes, homework, and a weekly newsletter, etc. Each week, please empty and look through the folder carefully with your child. Friday Folders are expected to be returned to class by the following Tuesday. At this time, I will check for their completed homework and other important notes/information.
Phone calls
I am usually available from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in working days. With our new phone system, our classroom phones will not ring during instructional time. You may leave a message on my voice-mail and I will return your phone call as soon as possible. When you leave a message, please make sure you leave your name, phone number, reason for the call, and the best time to return your call. In case of emergency, please relay the message through our main office.
Newsletters
Weekly newsletters will be sent home every Friday in your child’s folder. They keep you posted on what we have learnt in our classroom, upcoming events, the calendar of special helper in our classroom, and other important issues to parents and families.
Joint homework
Homework with parents’ involvement will be assigned to students. In such case, please help your child to complete it on time. If you have any questions or difficulties in doing the joint homework, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Volunteers
If you are interested in volunteering in our classroom, you need to fill out a “Volunteer Form” with the days and times you are available and what kind of jobs you would like to do (The form comes out later). Some examples of how you can volunteer are preparing activities, making copies, working in small groups, or just joining our parties and taking pictures. Based on your availability, a calendar will be made starting from October.
Using volunteers in the classroom requires teacher time and preparation. If you are scheduled to volunteer and are not able to come, please let me know ahead of time.

Website
This website has been created to keep parents posted on happenings in our classroom. Apart from basic information about this program, some useful materials such as song videos, word lists with audio and Chinese characters, students’ pictures and other resources will be included to enable you to help your child’s Chinese learning at home.
Conferences
In November of each year, a parent/teacher conference will be held for each student. Appointments will be scheduled with parents ahead of time. This is a good opportunity for you to discuss your child’s progress in the Chinese classroom. During the spring, conferences are based upon the request of either the parent or the teacher on behalf of the student. I am also happy to arrange additional parent/teacher conferences any time during the school year. Please contact me whenever you have concerns.
