Descriptions of activities - To be updated
Settling-in time
Settling-in time helps to make a smooth transition from morning activities at home and the trip to school to the community learning environment in the classroom. During this time, children hang up their coats and backpacks in their cubbies, put parent notes and lunch money in the basket, and gather on the carpet. The teacher takes attendance and order lunch and drink for children.
Community circle time
After settling in, we begin with our morning meeting, which sets the tone for the day. Children and teacher sit in a circle so we can all see one another and participate as equal members of the group. We preview the day’s schedule, go over the calendar and the weather, and children take turns to show and tell.
Listening/Speaking
Students learn to sing a variety of children’s songs in Chinese. They are encouraged to use their hand signals, body languages and movements to help them remember the songs. Vocabularies, phrases and simple sentences and conversations in Chinese will also be taught during this time.
Reading/Writing
Students learn to read simple Chinese characters and story books with the help of picture.
Snack
Children eat their own snacks at the table. Chinese songs will be played as background music while they eat.
Math
During math time, we will go over concepts from the curriculum. This will be done whole group, small group, and individually. Most of the activities will be hands on.
Guided groups/Stations
At this time, students will be pulled in a small group to work on different areas of the curriculum at their level. For instance, some children may be working on performing simple dialogues while others may be working on math or reading.
While some students are in their guided groups, the other students will be busy working on two workstations a day. These stations include work on reading, math, writing, and projects.

Chinese culture
Recess
Students go out for recess with another designated teacher to my classroom if weather permits. Otherwise, they stay in the classroom to have choice time or other activities under the teacher’s instruction.
Wrap up/Get ready for lunch
Students meet the teacher on the carpet. Together, they review the day’s learning and what go well and what needs to be improved the next day.
